If you are anything like me at the moment you are doing the following:
- Working all the hours under the sun
- Still not making any real progress (hopefully you are)
- Feeling drained and knackered
- But optimistic
At the start of setting up a lifestyle business its exhausting, I mean really exhausting. All I do is eat, sleep and breathe my business.
Every now and then I feel like a need to kick back and relax or my brain will explode. So I have found a cunning way of relaxing and working at the same time – pretty cool huh!
Basically I chill out and watch a movie, but not any movie. These movies have a business related message, are totally inspiring or make me want to jump off the sofa and shout “Let’s do this!”
Now there are tons of blog posts out there about the top movies for entrepreneurs but to me they are boring and way to obvious – I like the blue sky thinking movies.
So here is my list:
The Lego Movie
I know what you’re thinking – the Lego Movie – business related – really!?? But yes it totally is.
Think about it, all of the characters in the movie are really good at what they do but rush into building things that aren’t right without thinking things through.
Is this you? Rushing around like a headless chicken trying rush into things without really thinking about your ideal customer and their wants and needs. I know at times this feels like me.
This movie reminds me to slow down and really think first – oh and it is hilarious!
OK, so this movie is pretty old now but I still think it’s cool. If you are a lady entrepreneur this is sure to give you a kick up the backside!
It’s about a woman who joins the Navy Seals with everyone expecting her to fail. She works blimming hard, kicks ass and succeeds!
Come on ladies, this can be us!! We don’t even have to shave our heads.
This movie is all about entrepreneurial hustle. It shows that you don’t need to be an expert in something to get out there and do it – so just give it a go!
In this movie Jake Gyllenhaal can’t get a job so spots an opportunity in live crime journalism and gives it a go.
The Wolf Of Wall Street
Ignore the illegality, drink, drugs and insider trading this is a film about drive. An inner drive so intense you will do anything to succeed.
Watching this film will drive you to hunt success down and the benefits that come with it.
This film is about a guy who takes a pill and becomes super productive and really starts achieving things with his life.
For me this film has a double meaning. Firstly this film acts as a motivation to put the hours in, be productive and get things done.
However this pill has quite a few side effects which for me is a metaphor to take a break once in a while.
Check out this film and let me know does it motivate you or make you take a break?
I love this film and it has to be one of my favourite animated films ever so I had to include it in this list.
So this film isn’t about success, motivation or grit. It’s about human greed, ignorance and how we are blind to the effects we are having on the planets destruction.
Running a business means we have not only have a great opportunity to make a difference but we also have a responsibility to make a positive impact and protect the planet for future generations.
This is a great film to watch to help generate ideas for a bit of CSR!
The Dark Knight Rises
I’m sure we have all seen this movie. This film in the series is about Bruce Wayne and his come back from exile.
For me it shows you that in life and business we will have set backs. This film gives me the motivation to keep going and teaches you how to recover from a failure.
Never give up!
21 Jump Street
When running your own business you have to wear so many hats, you literally do everything. Often at times you may feel like you don’t really have a clue what you are doing!
Well this movie is about two total idiots who are cops, they have fun, mess around but guess what they are still really good at what they do and everything always works out in the end.
If they can do it then you can do it!
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
Ok so before I watched this film I thought it was for my Grandma. However it’s a brilliant film – Dev Patel plays a young ambitious guy who wants to run his own hotel.
His enthusiasm and eagerness to succeed shines through, despite set backs along the way and you finish the film with a smile wanting to plough some enthusiasm back into your business.
The Pursuit of Happyness
This movie is always in the films for entrepreneur lists so it a bit of a cliché. But this blog is named Happy Pursuit after all so it would be silly not to include it.
I have this on DVD and have watched it sooo many times. It’s about working really hard in the face of adversity and finding that inner strength to keep going when everything else in your life is going to crap.
Have that vision of where you want to be in your mind, pursue it relentlessly and one day you will get there!
If you like my list please share it! Also I would love to know what your top movies are for motivation when being an entrepreneur, I need some more motivating movies to watch!!
Ta muchly 🙂
