I always think that it is really important to have a vision. If you have a vision you are then able to focus on what you want and make the decisions you need to eventually get to where you want to be.
Take a couple of minutes and think about where you want to be in 1 year. 2 years or even 5 years time.
Some people hurtle through life as if they were stuck on a train track unable to make their own decisions and turn off that path. Life happens and without planning sometimes you can find yourself living a life you didn’t plan or envisage.
The key is to have a vision and then have the courage to throw yourself off the train.
Think about where you are now and what steps you have to take to get to your vision in one years time.
This whole blog for me is a method of reaching my vision. This means I can chart my progress and also inspires me to make the small steps or giant leaps to get there.
So what is my vision?
My vision is to be able to work when and where I want to. Unlike some lifestyle entrepreneurs I don’t want to travel around the world whilst working at the same time (although I do think that is really cool!). In fact I like where I live and I like having a base.
What I want to be able to do is have the option and flexibility to spend 2 months in India or cycle around Africa or take a US road trip for example. I don’t want the hassle of having to ask for permission for the time off or to use the term “trip of a lifetime” I want the option to take these trips as and when I like.
I am happy to continue to work as I take these trips I simply want the flexibility to do this.
I was at a Business show this week and one thing that a speaker said was that people who run there own business should take 12 weeks off per year – that is my aim.
How to get there
Simply having a vision isn’t enough. I know that I spent years reading blogs of people who are doing what I dream of doing wishing that was me.
To get there takes action, courage and faith.
So for me the key is to treat your vision in the same way as a business goal. In order to get there you need to develop a strategy and then break it down into manageable objectives.
For now I am trying to build up passive income streams and my business to enable me to take a 6 week trip in 2016 – after all you have to start somewhere.
So, what is your vision and how will you get there?
